Roller Derby

Everything is Chrome in the Future

No one reads my stuff anyway. So I want to try and talk myself through the opening cinematic and everything I want to do in the future. I made a video where I touched on some of those things, but I really don’t like making videos but the algorithms say I have to. So that’s there anyway.

I mentioned the series itself being a mixture of 70’s Grindhouse with that pretty, new coat of paint. A lot of what made them so good were just the way they started. You pretty much knew what you were getting into right at the start and you could get your mind ready as such.
It’s not the 70’s but I’ll give you Death Proof. You can see Tarantino’s foot fetish in full display. But if you watch below, you see it slowly puts you in the mood to be introduced to the first set of women.

Another example is A Scanner Darkly. You’ll be put right into the mindset about 10 seconds in. You’ll see what I mean. Prepare to itch.

I need to establish the tone right off the bat or else everything will just fall flat from there. That’s really what I’m concerned about.

As I’ve been writing I’ve been pulling out a lot of movies for some inspiration as I go along.

Such as Switchblade Sisters, which has a particular scene at a roller rink actually.

Then there’s this movie. There’s an intensity in this movie that I’ve just always loved. It’s one I don’t always see. You can really see the similar tone to what I’ve written.

Then there’s this one that I didn’t see until really recently. Don’t know how I missed it for so long considering the great fight scenes it has. Some of the best I’ve ever seen actually.

You’ve read and you can draw a lot of parallels with what I’m trying to accomplish. Just trying to do it in my own way. Cinema-Wise that is.

But of course, my second love is video games. And sometimes I’m able to actually squeeze in some time with my fighters… and Smash Bros which isn’t a fighting game. Sorry, it’s not.

For obvious reasons, this. You’ll see a ton of references of Jet Set Radio when you see the finished product.

Then of course, Madworld. Because it’s violent as hell. We’re over the top and only using practical effects, so why not go big or go home. We won’t be impaling anyone with a stop sign, but I think we’re figure out some fun stuff to do. If anyone asks me how I thought of such violent stuff. I’m not just thinking about Smash TV. Of course we’re not so violent yet. The situation isn’t really there for me to do some of the cool stuff I wanna do yet.

Okay, enough of that.

Now, the format, Instead of the fewer, longer episodes… I opted to go for more, shorter episodes. Each one will be less than 15 minutes, there will be 10 of them. And when all is said and done, it’ll basically be a long movie if you just want to sit and watch it all the way through. This is what all the Netflix has trained you for anyway.

So yeah, I had to throw all this stuff down real quick. At least talk about some stuff. Lemme know how you feel.

What Style Do I Use? The Question On Our Minds…

This has been a question I’ve been wrestling with. The fun thing that I’ve been trying to do with C-Block is mix up with every single episode is. The only thing that’s going to remain the same is the pulpy, violent nature. I’ve actually.

As you can see, you’re never going to see the same thing twice. We’re trying to create a unique experience here. Our first episode is pretty much used for establishing. After that, it’s all over the place. You’ll have as many experiences as you want. I just need everything to remain fresh and strong.

Bam, look at this really crude chart I made. This basically is the genre structure. It might change, I dunno. That’s just what I’m writing on for now.

Yoahhhhhhhhhh Chartz

Charts son.

I think that covers it. Remember to tell your friends. Tell your dead friends. Tell that cop that pulled you over today because you’re black.

Remember to check out the fundraising stuff and all that good crap. I’m going to get back to work.

C-Block: Let’s Talk About The format

Been getting a ton of questions about distribution. How’s it going to work, do you have it lined up… and so forth.

It’s actually quite simple. The web series format is a new breed, but it’s a¬†breed that everyone has access to… if that makes any damn sense at all. I can make everyone as long or short as I need it, and everything I have is mine and is controlled (mostly) by me. Which means you won’t have to go to the middle of nowhere just to see it.

The alternative would be to take it to festival after festival, where barely no one will see it. Sure, by doing so it gets you all kinds of personal accolades, but it doesn’t really do you much good in the long run when people actually want to see your stuff. And since this is crowdfunded, I want to people to see the work being made as soon as I can get it to them. Not a year or so afterwards when I’m done jacking myself off at film festivals you’ve never heard of. i’d be good for me, not for anyone else, especially you, the viewers who have been patient enough as it is.

I’m in the business of fun and entertainment. I just want you guys to have fun to, and as much as possible. Thus, we’re making a web series and getting quality content to you as quickly as humanly possible. The audience is what matters and I know what you want, even if you don’t know it yet.

Now I have to rest because I’m skating tomorrow. Lucky me.

Be sure to donate, so I can make this monster of a series.

I’ll see you all next time.

Here’s the link for you guys. Share it up..

Hey, roller derby! Series and stuff! Yay!

roller-derby

You see, I made a funny.

It’s movie time again. But we’re doing something a little different this time around. Like I said before I’m moving away for those full blown features because they’re a pain in the ass that I really don’t want to deal with right now. As you can see from past events, you can’t really blame me at this moment. We’re moving over towards shorts and web series. And this is what I hope to actually be our first web series.

It still doesn’t have an actual title (I’m hoping someone will help me out with that) but it’s basically about the darker side of the sports we play (I’ll argue all day, derby is a sport.)

But then again, some of you already know my flair. We have these stories about death and inner/other destruction. Insane twists and normally logical situations, and always in the most ridiculous way. But unlike other times, this one has some far more serious undertones and a group of fresh faces (well mostly, I’m picking one of mine for Chicago because the part was written for her, you all know who I’m talking about.) And doing this as a web series will give me the flexibility as a writer to actually improve things as I go along. Features generally don’t have that luxury without things going haywire.

Also, this movie will feature the skaters themselves and I wouldn’t want to slap a 5 month long shoot on them. Those can be draining if you’re not completely used to them. And it’s hard to tell how anyone will do on camera. It might take some people a little time to adjust, and that’s normal. Personally, I’m bad on camera. That’s why I’m behind it.

I really want to keep this movie within derby mostly because there are some physically able human beings, and we need physically able people, that’s for damn sure.

I already have the first episode written and I have an arc for at least 7 more. Running production between Goshen, South Bend and Chicago. Maybe in between. It all depends on what type of support I get for this script and this production. Because the blessing of the skaters is going to be key in making this work. This is unlike anything I’ve seen roll out of sport. It’s a prime opportunity to make something completely original and that’s the stuff that excites me. And of course all the fresh faces and personalities and I’ll get to deal with. And I welcome everybody, the crazier the better.

It’s going to be an interesting time watching this one grow. Any comments or questions can go into the comments section that no one ever uses on WordPress. Or you can hit up the good ol’ facebook page. I’ll be around updating that more often. And last you can hit up Stream Monster Productions and talk to that guy over there. He knows a lot about the production as well. Until then, don’t do drugs and brush your teeth.
